hi

Jan. 18th, 2009 | 10:40 am
mood: exhausted exhausted

All kids are finally over the stomach flu and I'm finally done with pneumonia. But I can't seem to keep myself awake. I fall asleep everywhere.

I've been working with Sherry making calls to relatives to sell Girl Scout Cookies. Because of her speech issues, they understand everything she says EXCEPT "Girl Scout cookies". That comes out "Dirl Tout Tooies". At least she's trying, and she's having a great time doing it. (And relatives are an easy mark).

I've submitted a writing sample to about.com (Thanks, Beth) and am waiting to hear from them.

Again, I sat down with lots to write about and am unable to write at the moment. I'll be back.

Merkusa, happy belated birthday!! I hope you had a wonderful day with your boys and that this year brings nothing but happiness.

I know I'm missing other birthdays. I apologize. I'll post them later when I can type and not have to go back and retype every other word.

Hello everyone. I've been missing here for a while and completely wrapped up in life. Christmas was nice. The only thing that went wrong was that Charlie was called into work at 2pm on Christmas day. That part was not so nice, but other than that, all went well. We took the kids to The Wilderness over the last weekend of winter break and they had a fantastic time playing and splashing in the different water parks. And I got to see people that I don't see nearly enough. There were quite a few of us that met there and it was good. The kids are back in school and loving it. William is involved in CAST (Children, Art, Storytelling, and Theater) at the library. He is enjoying that. All three kids will be back in gymnastics some time this month, I'm just not sure when. I logged on with so much more to say, but now that I'm here, I just want to go to bed. I'm fighting pneumonia and should sleep more but Sherry happens to be fighting the stomach flu and she needs to be cuddled and told that it will get better. So now I stare blankly at the monitor and .....................I'll talk to you later. Maybe when I've had sleep and can put together a clear thought.

I think like an old lady - sorry guys

Jun. 9th, 2008 | 03:02 pm
mood: aggravated aggravated

There is some old guy who runs a bank who wants his female employees to wear pantyhose.  Everyone is up in arms.  How could HE say such a thing?  NOBODY thinks like that.    I do.  I think it looks exceedingly unprofessional to wear a suit (with a skirt not pants) and not wear either hose or stockings.  I also am of the opinion that if a skirt a see-through, a slip is a really good idea. Especially since so many women wear thongs (whether they should or shouldn't)  I don't think we should be showing our private bits.  That's why they're called PRIVATE.
Here endeth the rant of the old lady.

**Quick edit - I should mention that I have not been working in an office where I wore skirts in 9 years, so things may have changed.  It doesn't change my opinionated thoughts.**

Why today?

mood: sad sad

I have no good explanation for why today, but I really feel the emptiness that Steve left right now.  Realistically, I wouldn't have seen him until this summer, but I actively feel his absence.  And I miss him.

The boys had swim lessons this morning.  They asked if we could pick up lunch on the way home.  Ok.  We're really eating more healthily lately and have been avoiding the take out, but I'm a pushover and Charlie's out of town.  So, at the kids' request, we stop at The Spot.  We pick up food and head home.  As we come into the house, something smells off.  I couldn't put my finger on it.  It was just wrong.  Now, I have a mostly stuffed up nose due to the damn trees and flowers, so I'm amazed that I could smell anything.  I had the kids sit down at the table and began unpacking the food.  That's when the weird smell really hit.  Not rotten food weird, just weird.  So I called The Spot.  I mentioned that everything smelled different and somehow off.  The guy replies with "Oh yeah, we've started frying everything in peanut oil."  EVERYTHING went into the trash.  I mentioned in a freaked out scared type voice that maybe they'd like to advertise that they're cooking in peanut oil since there are so many kids in the area have nut allergies.  "Oh.  But we don't have nuts in things.  We just cook in the oil.  It's not the same."  I let him know that food cooked in peanut oil could make my child just as dead as eating the nuts themselves.  "Oh." was the response I got.

I'm calm now - thanks, in no small part, to xanax.  I cooked our lunch, and the kids are all fine.  The boys are playing video games and watching tv because I'm a bad mom.  Sherry is napping, and I am off to take a shower.  A looooong shower.

Writing project.

Apr. 20th, 2008 | 03:41 pm
mood: thoughtful thoughtful

There is a piece/book that I have had mulling about in the back of my head for quite a few years now.  The time has come to put pencil to paper.  If I have your email address, you will probably get this request that way too.  Sorry.

Here is my question that I propose to you:

What do you want to be when you grow up?  What was your answer to that as a child?  A teenager?  Mid-late twenties? Now?  How has life changed your answers?
You can answer as little or as much as you want.

All replies will be kept confidential.  If this piece ever gets to the "hey I wonder if this will be publishable?", I will, OF COURSE, get your written  permission to use your answer(s).  If, from the beginning, you would like to be listed as "anonymous" or have your name changed, that can be done as well.

Thank you in advance to all who reply.

Stefanie

Air quality

Apr. 5th, 2008 | 10:09 pm
mood: pleased pleased

I finally broke down and purchased an air quality test kit.  I left the petri dishes in the master bedroom, the living room, and the basement.  After five days, we have nothing growing in the bedroom, one small whitish mold spot in the basement, and three small bacteria dots in the living room.  The mold spot was not the dangerous  mold and since our basement has taken in water with all the snow melting and the rain, I'm actually surprised the dish wasn't covered.  The one for the living room also doesn't surprise me.  This is where the kids have been lounging on the couches while sick.  It's finally warm enough now to open the windows and clean from top to bottom.  That should take care of just about everything.   Just as an extra precaution, I'm going to test the downstairs bathroom.  It doesn't have a vent, so it stays damp for a while after showers.  Anyway, I am pleased that the house is not causing or exacerbating the health issues we've had this year so far.  That's if for now.  I'm off to bed.  Good night.

Romance

Apr. 4th, 2008 | 08:18 pm
mood: curious curious

When Charlie and I were dating, we were up late one night.  We were sitting behind the Rose and Crown late at night and talking.  That was back when I could work a day at faire, stay up most of the night, and be going strong the entire next day.  Not so much anymore.  Anyway, the stones on the ground behind the building, if you remember, were white.  The moonlight made them almost glow at night.  On this particular night there was a full moon and the rocks were an amazing glowing white.  Charlie turned on the radio in his car, turned it to a classical station, and taught me to waltz.  And we spent many a night that summer waltzing underneath the glow of the moon, lost in our magical world.

What about you?  Do you have any romantic memories that you'd be willing to share?

Okay, this is not my usual style to make, but I wanted to try  something new.  It's a byzantine chain maille pattern with squares inserted where I thought they should go.  Both the necklace and bracelet are sterling and the lighting in the picture is iffy, but I love the way these pieces turned out.
