the waiting game

I made it through the surgery.  It went fine.   I'm sore and my breast is purple (which is odd), but I'm ok.  Now we wait.  We wait for the referral from my primary care doctor so I can go see my surgeon and he can check his work to see how I'm healing.  And we wait for the appointment because that's when I find out if it's cancer.  I can deal with it, either way.  I just need to know what the next step is.  I'm back on blood thinners which is good. A blood clot right now would really piss me off.  I'll be fine no matter what the diagnosis.  It's the waiting that I'm not fine with.  Time to get some sleep.  Charlie is downstairs.  I'm a Starcraft 2 widow.  I'm glad he's able to escape a bit.  This has been rough on him.  Between my surgery and his father being hospitalized due to diabetes induced cellulitis, he's had a bad week.  I love him so very much and am  very lucky to have someone who loves me like Charlie does. He's a true gift from God, and I am grateful.  Goodnight.

My children and the things they say - part the first

"Mommy, how does a baby get out of a mommy's tummy?"  Right after Sherry asked that question, William looked at me with huge eyes and said "AWKWARD!"  Seeing that William was not wanting to be in the room for the conversation, I told Sherry we'd talk about it later.  Fast forward to 2am that night (or the next morning depending on how you look at it).  Sherry wakes me up, pulls my downstairs and NEEDS to talk to me.  I figured she'd had a bad dream.  Wrong.  "Mommy, how does a baby get out of a mommy's tummy?"  Ok, 2am is the perfect  time for this conversation.  I told her that a baby doesn't grow in a mommy's stomach because then it would be covered in food and all yucky.  I told her that women have this amazing part of their bodies called a uterus which only is there to grow and sustain life.  She wanted to know if she had one now.  I told her that she did, but that it was small because she's still a little girl.  Additionally, that when she grows up and is married and ready to become a mommy, her babies would grow in her uterus and would come out of there.  She seemed happy with the answer and started to fade.  Just before she fell asleep, she muttered "I'm so glad I have a magic Icarus that will grow my baby one day."  I got the giggles.  All I could think was "Noooooooooo!  Don't fly too close to the sun or you'll melt the baby."  It's hard to get a six year old back to sleep when you can't stop shaking with laughter.

Everyone else is asleep.  I sit here looking at two pieces of crocheted work that are both almost done, and rather than finish either, I want to begin another.  Perhaps since it's after midnight and we have a four hour cookie booth with Daisy Scouts tomorrow, I should get some rest.  I feel so much more safe here than on FB.  I still like FB,  but this is where I can share my heart without worrying that it will be used and abused by those who are too negative.

The play's the thing

William played Charlie in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" today.  He was adorable.  I know I'm biased, but he was totally the best one on the stage. :)  They are doing the play again in a week and he'll be playing Augustus Gloop.  I can't wait to see that version.  I'm off to bed.  I'll be back to catch up tomorrow after the book fair and a  parent/teacher conference.  Hooray for lj again.

That's what my baby says
Mow, Mow, Mow
And my heart starts pumpin'
Chicka, chicka, chew-wop
Never gonna stop
Gitchi-gitchi-goo means that I love you

All kids are finally over the stomach flu and I'm finally done with pneumonia. But I can't seem to keep myself awake. I fall asleep everywhere.

I've been working with Sherry making calls to relatives to sell Girl Scout Cookies. Because of her speech issues, they understand everything she says EXCEPT "Girl Scout cookies". That comes out "Dirl Tout Tooies". At least she's trying, and she's having a great time doing it. (And relatives are an easy mark).

I've submitted a writing sample to about.com (Thanks, Beth) and am waiting to hear from them.

Again, I sat down with lots to write about and am unable to write at the moment. I'll be back.

Merkusa, happy belated birthday!! I hope you had a wonderful day with your boys and that this year brings nothing but happiness.

I know I'm missing other birthdays. I apologize. I'll post them later when I can type and not have to go back and retype every other word.

stuff

Jan. 10th, 2009 | 08:13 pm

Hello everyone. I've been missing here for a while and completely wrapped up in life. Christmas was nice. The only thing that went wrong was that Charlie was called into work at 2pm on Christmas day. That part was not so nice, but other than that, all went well. We took the kids to The Wilderness over the last weekend of winter break and they had a fantastic time playing and splashing in the different water parks. And I got to see people that I don't see nearly enough. There were quite a few of us that met there and it was good. The kids are back in school and loving it. William is involved in CAST (Children, Art, Storytelling, and Theater) at the library. He is enjoying that. All three kids will be back in gymnastics some time this month, I'm just not sure when. I logged on with so much more to say, but now that I'm here, I just want to go to bed. I'm fighting pneumonia and should sleep more but Sherry happens to be fighting the stomach flu and she needs to be cuddled and told that it will get better. So now I stare blankly at the monitor and .....................I'll talk to you later. Maybe when I've had sleep and can put together a clear thought.
